The opportunity

Job Description

TriStar Southern Hills Medical Center is seeking a Nurse Extern to join our surgical medical-surgical unit on a PRN basis. As a Nurse Extern, you will deliver high-quality, patient-centered care by performing delegated basic patient care services under the supervision of a registered nurse. You will assist the nursing staff in providing patient care according to your skills and training, while supporting the care team in maintaining a clean, well-organized, and safe patient environment.

This position is ideal for students currently enrolled in an accredited RN nursing program who are seeking clinical experience and professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care for patient populations served in the department
  • Communicate pertinent patient information to appropriate individuals
  • Deliver compassionate, holistic care while supporting the rights and dignity of all patients
  • Document patient care information in appropriate computer systems
  • Assist with activities of daily living for assigned patients
  • Support the nursing team in maintaining a safe and organized patient care environment

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, obtained and maintained within hospital policy timeframes
  • Currently enrolled in good standing in an accredited RN nursing program
  • Eligible after completion of first nursing semester or as a CNA in first semester of RN program

Additional Requirements

  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
