Nurse Extern PRN

Medical City Plano is seeking Nurse Externs for PRN opportunities across multiple clinical units including Surgical Oncology, Medical Oncology, Med Surg, Float Pool, ICU Stepdown, Cardiac Stepdown, and Neuro PCU. As a Nurse Extern, you will be a valued member of the nursing team, gaining hands-on experience while exploring the full scope of the Registered Nurse role. You will help deliver safe, compassionate care that improves patients' lives while building the skills and confidence needed as you progress through your nursing program.

Clinical Setting

Medical City Plano is a 600+ bed acute care hospital serving Plano and Collin County. The hospital features a cancer treatment center, cardiovascular programs, The Bariatric Surgery Institute, a Wound Care Center, inpatient rehabilitation, complete women's and children's services including a high-risk antepartum unit and Level 3 neonatal intensive-care unit. Medical City Plano is a Comprehensive Stroke Center and Level I Trauma Center, and houses The Burn & Reconstructive Center of Texas.

Responsibilities

• Provide essential patient care by assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), checking vital signs, supporting mobility, and ensuring comfort and hygiene
• Perform nursing tasks including wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other basic procedures as you gain experience and competency
• Document care accurately and communicate timely updates with the nursing team to ensure seamless and coordinated patient care
• Help patients and families understand their care plans and offer guidance for health and recovery
• Maintain clean and safe patient areas by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and maintaining an organized environment
• Engage in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and partner with your supervisor or preceptor to build your personal career development plan

Required Qualifications

• Enrollment in an accredited ADN or BSN program
• Completion of foundation, fundamental, or med surg I clinical
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), BCLS Instructor certification, Associate Degree, or Bachelor's Degree must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
