Nurse Extern PRN

Heart Hospital of Austin is seeking a Nurse Extern PRN to join our nursing team in a cardiovascular specialty hospital. As a Nurse Extern, you will gain hands-on experience exploring the full scope of the Registered Nurse role while delivering safe, compassionate care that improves patients' lives. Clinical Setting

Heart Hospital of Austin is a 72-bed cardiovascular specialty hospital featuring a 24-hour emergency department, six operating rooms (three hybrid), three catheterization labs, and electrophysiology services. The hospital specializes in cardiovascular disease diagnosis and treatment, including advanced programs such as the Executive Wellness Program and Advanced Heart Failure Program with cutting-edge therapies including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and left ventricular assist devices (LVAD).

Responsibilities

• Provide essential patient care including assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), vital sign monitoring, mobility support, and comfort and hygiene measures
• Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other basic procedures as you gain experience and competency
• Document care accurately and communicate timely updates with the nursing team to ensure seamless, coordinated patient care
• Help patients and families understand their care plans and provide guidance for health and recovery
• Maintain clean and safe patient areas by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and maintaining an organized environment
• Engage in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and partner with your supervisor or preceptor to develop your personal career development plan

Required Qualifications

• Currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited school of nursing for a Registered Nurse degree or LVN degree
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross, required within 30 days of employment start date
• Minimum requirement of two 12-hour shifts per month

Schedule

This is a PRN (as-needed) position with flexible scheduling to accommodate classes and clinicals.
