Nurse Extern PRN

HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital is seeking a Nurse Extern PRN to join our nursing team. As a Nurse Extern, you will gain hands-on experience exploring the full scope of the Registered Nurse role while delivering safe, compassionate care that improves patients' lives. This position is ideal for nursing students building skills and confidence as they progress through their nursing program.

Clinical Setting

HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital is a 267-bed top-performing quality hospital with over 300 respected and qualified physicians. We offer an Advanced Primary Stroke Center, Cancer Care Center, open-heart surgery, pediatric services, emergency services including a pediatric ER and two freestanding ERs, and a wide range of specialties for critically ill patients.

Responsibilities

• Provide essential patient care by assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), checking vital signs, supporting mobility, and ensuring comfort and hygiene
• Perform nursing tasks including wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other basic procedures as you gain experience and competency
• Document care accurately and communicate timely updates with the nursing team to ensure seamless and coordinated patient care
• Help patients and families understand their care plans and offer guidance for health and recovery
• Maintain clean and safe patient areas by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and maintaining an organized environment
• Engage in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and partner with your supervisor or preceptor to build your personal career development plan

Required Qualifications

• Associate Degree, Bachelor's Degree, or Certificate in nursing
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date

Schedule

• PRN (as needed) position
• No travel required
