Nurse Extern PRN Emergency Room

Join Medical City Plano's nursing team as a Nurse Extern in the Emergency Room. This PRN position offers hands-on clinical experience as you progress through your nursing program, allowing you to explore the full scope of the Registered Nurse role while delivering safe, compassionate patient care.

Clinical Setting

Medical City Plano is a 600+ bed acute care hospital serving Plano and Collin County. The hospital features advanced services including a cancer treatment center, cardiovascular programs, trauma center, burn center, and comprehensive women's and children's services.

Responsibilities

• Provide essential patient care including assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), vital sign monitoring, mobility support, and comfort and hygiene measures
• Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other basic procedures as you gain experience and competency
• Document care accurately and communicate timely updates with the nursing team to ensure seamless, coordinated patient care
• Help patients and families understand their care plans and provide guidance for health and recovery
• Maintain clean and safe patient areas by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and organizing the environment
• Engage in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and work with your supervisor or preceptor to develop your personal career development plan

Required Qualifications

• Current enrollment in an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program
• Completion of Foundation, Fundamental, or Med Surg I clinical coursework
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification
