Nurse Extern PRN Emergency Department

Join Reston Hospital Center's Emergency Department as a Nurse Extern PRN and gain hands-on experience in acute care nursing. This position offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced nursing staff while building clinical skills and exploring the full scope of the Registered Nurse role. You will provide direct patient care in a 230+ bed acute care facility that serves as a certified Stroke Center and accredited Chest Pain Center in Northern Virginia.

Responsibilities

• Provide essential patient care including assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), vital sign monitoring, mobility support, and comfort and hygiene measures
• Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other basic procedures as you gain experience and competency
• Document care accurately and communicate timely updates with the nursing team to ensure coordinated, seamless patient care
• Help patients and families understand their care plans and provide guidance for health and recovery
• Maintain clean and safe patient areas by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and organizing the environment
• Engage in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and work with your supervisor or preceptor to develop your personal career development plan

Required Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an RN program
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date

Compensation

• Hourly wage: $19.29 - $26.04 per hour
• Actual salary may vary based on specific skills, years of experience, and comparison to other employees in the role
