Nurse Extern PRN Emergency Department

Medical City Fort Worth is seeking a Nurse Extern for a PRN position in the Emergency Department. As a Nurse Extern, you will be a valued member of the nursing team, gaining hands-on experience while exploring the full scope of the Registered Nurse role. You will help deliver safe, compassionate care that improves patients' lives while building the skills and confidence to take on more advanced responsibilities as you progress through your nursing program.

Clinical Setting

Medical City Fort Worth is a 350+ bed full-service Magnet Designated hospital located in the heart of the medical district. The hospital serves as a tertiary referral center for Tarrant County and many counties within a 90-mile radius. The Emergency Department is one of three ER locations, with two additional off-campus ERs located in Burleson and White Settlement.

Responsibilities

• Provide essential care for patients by helping with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), checking vital signs, supporting mobility, and ensuring comfort and hygiene
• Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, collecting specimens, and other basic procedures as you gain experience and grow in your competency
• Document care accurately and communicate timely updates with the nursing team to keep patient care seamless and coordinated
• Help patients and families understand their care plans and offer guidance for their health and recovery
• Keep patient areas clean and safe by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and maintaining an organized environment
• Engage in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and partner with your supervisor or preceptor to build your personal career development plan

Required Qualifications

• Enrollment in an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date

Preferred Qualifications

• Completion of foundation, fundamental, or Med Surg I clinical
