The opportunity

Job Description

TriStar Summit Medical Center is seeking a Nurse Extern for a PRN position in the Emergency Department. As a Nurse Extern, you will deliver high-quality, patient-centered care by performing delegated basic patient care services under the supervision of a registered nurse. You will assist the nursing staff in providing patient care, maintaining a clean and safe patient care environment, and supporting patients with activities of daily living.

TriStar Summit Medical Center is a 230+ bed comprehensive facility serving Davidson, Wilson, and surrounding counties. The facility includes a Level III Trauma Center and offers a full array of acute care services including cardiology, oncology, orthopedics/spine, rehabilitation, and women's services. The hospital is an Accredited Chest Pain Center with PCI and a Primary Stroke Center, serving as a leading provider of emergency heart and stroke care.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care for patient populations served in the Emergency Department
  • Communicate pertinent patient information to appropriate individuals
  • Deliver compassionate, holistic care while supporting the rights and dignity of all patients
  • Document patient care information in appropriate computer systems
  • Assist with activities of daily living for assigned patients
  • Maintain a clean, well-organized, and safe patient care environment

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited RN nursing program
  • Eligible after completion of first nursing semester or as a CNA in first semester of RN program
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, current and maintained within hospital policy timeframes
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
