Nurse Extern

Join Piedmont Augusta Hospital as a Nurse Extern and gain valuable clinical experience while progressing through your nursing education. This program begins December 14th, 2026, and offers nursing students the opportunity to work alongside registered nurses, develop time management skills, and learn the role of Patient Care Technician.

As a Nurse Extern under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, you will provide direct patient care to patients across the lifespan, from birth through all stages of life. You will utilize treatments, procedures, and equipment appropriate to pre-licensure nurses in the clinical setting, following hospital policy.

Schedule

• Minimum of 2 twelve-hour shifts per month required
• Must complete 1 Patient Care Technician shift prior to 1 Nurse Extern shift each month

Required Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in and progressing through an accredited nursing program
• Successfully completed the first Medical-Surgical rotation
• Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification

Preferred Qualifications

• Certification from a Nursing Assistant or Patient Care Technician program
• Certification in phlebotomy
• Certification in ECG
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Patient Care Technician program certification
• Phlebotomy Technician Certification (CPT)
• Basic ECG Certification (BECG)
