Join HCA Florida St. Petersburg Hospital as a Nurse Extern in our Progressive Care Unit (PCU) on a PRN basis. This position offers hands-on clinical experience as you progress through your nursing program, allowing you to explore the full scope of the Registered Nurse role while delivering safe, compassionate care to patients.
HCA Florida St. Petersburg Hospital is a 215-bed acute care facility with Joint Commission accreditation. The hospital provides emergency, diagnostic, medical, and surgical services, including women's services with labor and delivery, post-partum, and nursery care. The facility is an accredited advanced primary stroke center, chest pain center, certified atrial fibrillation center, and accredited community cancer center. Additional specialties include GYN robotic surgery, orthopedic services for joint replacement and spine surgery, and a pelvic pain and incontinence center.
Responsibilities
- Provide essential patient care including assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), vital sign monitoring, mobility support, and comfort and hygiene measures
- Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other basic procedures as you gain experience and competency
- Document care accurately and communicate timely updates with the nursing team to ensure seamless, coordinated patient care
- Help patients and families understand their care plans and provide guidance for health and recovery
- Maintain clean and safe patient areas by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and organizing the environment
- Engage in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and work with your supervisor or preceptor to develop your personal career development plan
Required Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an accredited Registered Nurse (RN) nursing program
- Completed fundamentals of nursing coursework at your currently enrolled nursing school
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification
