Nurse Extern

As a Nurse Extern at North Alabama Medical Center, you will provide direct patient care under the supervision and delegation of a registered nurse. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain practical clinical experience while supporting the patient care team in a 263-bed acute care hospital setting in Florence, Alabama.

Responsibilities

• Perform direct patient care under the direction, delegation, and supervision of a registered nurse
• Assist patients with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation
• Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate to the supervising RN
• Document patient care provided
• Collaborate with the patient care team to coordinate care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs
• Evaluate learning needs of patients and families and provide education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances
• Maintain positive professional relationships with patients, families, coworkers, and the healthcare team
• Advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of patients

Required Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a nursing program at a university or college
• BLS certification required or must be obtained within 2 weeks of start date
