The opportunity

Job Description

Mercy Hospital Oklahoma City is seeking a Nurse Extern to provide clinical support under the direction of an RN or LPN. In this full-time position, you will assist in delivering individualized patient care, working cooperatively as part of a clinical team to help patients achieve their highest level of wellness. You will perform designated clinical procedures and non-clinical support tasks essential to patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Assist RNs and LPNs with individualized patient care
  • Perform designated clinical procedures under supervision
  • Complete non-clinical support tasks as assigned
  • Work collaboratively with the healthcare team

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma, G.E.D., or current enrollment in a healthcare career program through high school curriculum
  • Alternatively, age 18 and able to participate in Mercy's UAP training program
  • Alternatively, current Mercy employee
  • BLS certification required within one month of hire
  • Completion of PCA competencies required within three months of hire
  • If no previous experience, completion of Mercy's required 175-hour training program (meets state Department of Health and Senior Services requirements) within 90 days of hire to remain in the PCA position per state guidelines

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to push, pull, and lift 50 pounds on a regular basis
  • Prolonged standing and walking each shift
  • Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties
