Join McLeod Health as a Nurse Extern in the Neuroscience Care Unit (NSCU). This PRN position offers nursing students the opportunity to gain practical clinical experience in a dynamic healthcare environment while supporting the care team in a specialized neuroscience setting.
Clinical Setting
You will work in the Neuroscience Care Unit at one of McLeod Health's seven hospitals, part of a large integrated health system serving an 18-county region in South Carolina.
Responsibilities
- Recognize normal signs of growth, development, and aging appropriate to the patient population
- Understand assessment, treatment, and care requirements specific to neuroscience patients
- Initiate and maintain hygiene and cleanliness for patients, patient environments, and the unit
- Understand and recognize appropriate storage and safety of medications, including large volume IVs, alcohol, saline, and prepackaged medication kits
- Conduct hourly rounds using Service Excellence Standards
- Promote and foster an environment of comfort and safety for patients and visitors
- Perform or assist with nutritional and hydration interventions, including feeding, providing fluids, water, or snacks
- Identify and communicate appropriate patient data to interdisciplinary team members
- Collect and record patient-related data through direct care tasks
- Demonstrate continued professional growth through goal-setting and participation in evidence-based practice
- Utilize appropriate health and safety practices to protect patients and staff
- Perform general transportation and courier duties as directed
Required Qualifications
- Completed one semester of a nursing program
Licenses and Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
