Nurse Extern - Neuroscience Care Unit (NSCU) - PRN

This is a PRN (as-needed) Nurse Extern position in the Neuroscience Care Unit (NSCU). As a Nurse Extern, you will work under supervision to provide direct patient care and support to the nursing team while gaining clinical experience in a specialized neuroscience setting.

Responsibilities

• Recognize normal signs of growth, development, and aging appropriate to the patient population and understand assessment, treatment, and care requirements for the specific age groups served
• Initiate and maintain hygiene and cleanliness for patients, patient environments, and the unit environment
• Understand and recognize appropriate storage and safety protocols for medications, including large volume IVs, alcohol, saline, and prepackaged medication kits
• Conduct hourly rounds using Service Excellence Standards
• Promote and foster an environment of comfort and safety for patients and visitors
• Perform or assist with nutritional and hydration interventions, including feeding, providing fluids, water, or snacks
• Identify and communicate appropriate patient data to members of the interdisciplinary team
• Collect and record patient-related data through the performance of direct care tasks
• Demonstrate continued professional growth through goal-setting and participation in evidence-based tasks
• Utilize appropriate health and safety practices to protect both patients and staff
• Perform general transportation and courier duties as directed

Required Qualifications

• Completed one semester of a nursing program

Licenses and Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
