Nurse Extern Neurology PRN

St. David's South Austin Medical Center is seeking a Nurse Extern for the Neurology unit on a PRN (as-needed) basis. As a Nurse Extern, you will be a valued member of the nursing team, gaining hands-on clinical experience while exploring the full scope of the Registered Nurse role. You will help deliver safe, compassionate care to patients while building the skills and confidence needed to progress through your nursing program.

Clinical Setting

St. David's South Austin Medical Center is a 368-bed acute care hospital offering comprehensive specialty and sub-specialty services. The facility features a nationally accredited oncology program with the region's only adult Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program, a Level II trauma center, advanced cardiac and stroke services, orthopedic services, full-service maternity and newborn care, and four community emergency centers. The hospital is affiliated with the Texas Institute for Robotic Surgery, providing advanced robotic capabilities for multiple surgical specialties.

Responsibilities

• Provide essential patient care by assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), checking vital signs, supporting mobility, and ensuring patient comfort and hygiene
• Perform nursing tasks including wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other basic procedures as you gain experience and develop competency
• Document care accurately and communicate timely updates with the nursing team to ensure seamless and coordinated patient care
• Help patients and families understand their care plans and provide guidance for health and recovery
• Maintain clean and safe patient areas by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and maintaining an organized environment
• Engage in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and partner with your supervisor or preceptor to develop your personal career development plan

Required Qualifications

• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
