Wesley Medical Center is seeking a Nurse Extern for the Neuro Trauma unit. As a Nurse Extern, you will be a valued member of the nursing team, gaining hands-on experience and exploring the full scope of the Registered Nurse role. You will help deliver safe, compassionate care to patients while building the skills and confidence needed to progress through your nursing program.
Clinical Setting
Wesley Medical Center is a Level I Trauma Center and the only Level II Pediatric Trauma Center in Kansas. The facility treats more than 24,000 patients annually and is part of HCA Healthcare, the nation's leading provider of healthcare services.
Responsibilities
- Provide essential patient care by assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), checking vital signs, supporting mobility, and ensuring comfort and hygiene
- Perform nursing tasks including wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other basic procedures as you gain experience and competency
- Document care accurately and communicate timely updates with the nursing team to ensure seamless and coordinated patient care
- Help patients and families understand their care plans and offer guidance for health and recovery
- Maintain clean and safe patient areas by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and maintaining an organized environment
- Engage in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and work with your supervisor or preceptor to develop your personal career development plan
Required Qualifications
- Associate Degree or Bachelor's Degree
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date

- No travel required
- PRN (as-needed) position
