Nurse Extern - Med/Surg Oncology

Join Henry Ford Health as a Nurse Extern on the Med/Surg Oncology unit at Henry Ford Rochester Hospital. This position offers nursing students the opportunity to gain clinical experience in a medical-surgical oncology environment while building foundational nursing skills and preparing for the transition from student to professional nurse.

As a Nurse Extern, you will work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, providing patient-centered care that supports patient safety, comfort, and overall well-being. You will be an essential member of the nursing team, assisting with patient care duties, responding to emergent situations, and contributing to high-quality care delivery.

Responsibilities

• Perform specific patient care duties to meet patient safety and comfort needs under RN supervision
• Provide input to assist the RN in planning and implementing patient care
• Respond to emergent situations according to established procedures
• Participate in continuing education to enhance nursing skills and knowledge

Schedule

• 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM or 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM
• Contingent position

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent, OR currently enrolled in the Henry Ford Health Early College Program with completion of two clinical rotations
• Enrolled in an accredited school of nursing with completion of two clinical rotations, including one in Med/Surg (acute care setting)
• Current Health Care Provider Certification
