Nurse Extern - Med Surg

This is a developmental program for nursing students seeking expanded clinical experience in medical-surgical nursing. As a Nurse Extern, you will work alongside Registered Nursing staff to perform patient care activities under supervision and guidance. You will participate in patient care planning, implementation, observation, and evaluation, and report significant observations to a Registered Nurse. This position is designed to help you develop multiple and varied clinical skills aligned with your state's Board of Nursing scope of practice requirements.

Clinical Setting

This role is based at The Hospitals of Providence - East Campus, a healthcare system serving the El Paso community since 1902.

Responsibilities

• Provide expanded clinical experience in medical-surgical nursing specialties
• Assist Registered Nursing staff with patient care activities
• Participate in patient care planning, implementation, observation, and evaluation
• Report significant observations to a Registered Nurse
• Participate in a guided training and development program aligned to state Board of Nursing scope requirements

Required Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an accredited RN program
• Completion of first clinical rotation
• AHA BLS certification

Schedule

• Rotating shifts
• Per Diem employment type
