Nurse Extern Med Surg Galen Students

HCA Florida Northwest Hospital is seeking a Nurse Extern for Medical-Surgical nursing to join our nursing team on a PRN basis. This position is designed for students currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program who want to gain hands-on clinical experience while exploring the full scope of the Registered Nurse role. You will work under the supervision of registered nurses, delivering safe, compassionate patient care while building the skills and confidence needed to progress through your nursing program and into professional practice.

We are designated as a primary stroke center, accredited chest pain center, Comprehensive Bariatric Center of Excellence, and home to the only Level III NICU in northern Broward County. Responsibilities

• Provide essential patient care including assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), vital sign monitoring, mobility support, and comfort and hygiene measures
• Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other basic procedures as you gain experience and demonstrate competency
• Document patient care accurately and communicate timely updates with the nursing team to ensure seamless, coordinated care
• Help patients and families understand their care plans and provide guidance for health and recovery
• Maintain clean, safe patient care environments by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and organizing the workspace
• Engage in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve patient care, and work with your supervisor or preceptor to develop your personal career development plan

Required Qualifications

• Currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited school of nursing

Preferred Qualifications

• One or more years of nursing school completed
