Nurse Extern Med Surg Galen Students

HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital is seeking a Nurse Extern for Medical-Surgical nursing to join our nursing team. This position is ideal for students currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program who want to gain hands-on clinical experience while exploring the full scope of the Registered Nurse role. You will work under the supervision of registered nurses, delivering safe, compassionate patient care while building the skills and confidence needed to progress through your nursing program.

Clinical Setting

Lawnwood Hospital is a 380-bed acute-care facility on Florida's Treasure Coast offering a full range of services including a Heart Institute with interventional and therapeutic care, open-heart surgery, labor and delivery, pediatrics, orthopedics, oncology, emergency services, and surgical services. The hospital is a designated Certified Primary Stroke Center, Level II Trauma Center verified by the American College of Surgeons, and home to the area's only Level III Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Units.

Responsibilities

• Provide essential patient care including assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), vital sign monitoring, mobility support, and comfort and hygiene measures
• Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other basic procedures as you gain experience and competency
• Document care accurately and communicate timely updates with the nursing team to ensure seamless, coordinated patient care
• Help patients and families understand their care plans and provide guidance for health and recovery
• Maintain clean, safe patient areas by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and organizing the patient care environment
• Engage in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and work with your supervisor or preceptor to develop your personal career development plan

Required Qualifications

• Currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited school of nursing

Preferred Qualifications

• One or more years of nursing school completed
