Nurse Extern - Med-Surg, CV Tele, PCU

Piedmont Augusta Hospital is seeking Nurse Externs to gain clinical experience in Med-Surg, Cardiovascular Telemetry, and Progressive Care Unit settings. This program begins December 14th, 2026, and provides nursing students with hands-on training working alongside registered nurses while also learning the Patient Care Technician role.

Program Structure

Nurse Externs must commit to a minimum of 2 twelve-hour shifts per month, which includes 1 Patient Care Technician shift prior to 1 Nurse Extern shift each month.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, you will:

• Provide direct patient care to patients across the lifespan
• Utilize treatments, procedures, and equipment appropriate to pre-licensure nurses in the clinical setting per hospital policy
• Support patient care activities in Med-Surg, Cardiovascular Telemetry, and Progressive Care Unit environments

Required Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in and progressing through an accredited nursing program
• Successfully completed the first Med-Surg clinical rotation
• Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification

Preferred Qualifications

• Certification from a Nursing Assistant or Patient Care Technician program
• Phlebotomy certification
• Basic ECG certification
