Nurse Extern

Meadowview Regional Medical Center, a 100-bed acute care facility in Maysville, Kentucky, is seeking a Nurse Extern to provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. This PRN position is ideal for nursing students nearing completion of their degree who want to gain clinical experience in a supportive healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under the direction, delegation, and supervision of a Registered Nurse
• Document patient care provided
• Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate to the supervising RN
• Maintain positive professional relationships with patients, families, coworkers, and the healthcare team
• Assist patients with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation
• Collaborate across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral, and spiritual or psychosocial support needs
• Evaluate learning needs of patients and families and provide education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances
• Advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of patients

Required Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an approved school of nursing as a third-year student or higher
• Expected to graduate within 13 months of hire
• In good standing with the approved school of nursing
• Clinically competent to perform nursing extern duties
• Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BCLS) certification
