The opportunity

Job Description

Join UT Health Jacksonville as a Nurse Extern in our Labor & Delivery unit. This is a PRN, rotating shift position supporting our 33-bed facility, which includes a 24-hour emergency department designated as a Level IV trauma center and acute stroke ready facility, along with a dedicated maternity unit.

As a Nurse Extern, you will work under the direct supervision of a registered nurse, performing basic nursing tasks and assisting with patient care in the L&D setting. You will be responsible for reporting patient conditions and circumstances, maintaining equipment and unit cleanliness, and demonstrating the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to patients on your assigned unit.

Clinical Setting

UT Health Jacksonville is a comprehensive acute care facility featuring 33 operational beds, an ICU, a 24-hour Level IV trauma center emergency department with acute stroke readiness, a maternity unit, advanced diagnostic technology, surgical suites, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation services, a wound healing center, and access to the UT Health East Texas Olympic Center fitness and rehabilitation facility.

Responsibilities

  • Perform nursing functions as authorized under the direct supervision of a registered nurse
  • Provide basic nursing tasks and direct patient care
  • Report patient conditions and circumstances to the nursing team
  • Maintain equipment and unit cleanliness
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate to the patient population served

Schedule

This is a PRN position with rotating shifts. You may be required to work irregular schedules.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program in good academic standing
  • Anticipated completion of nursing program within 24 months from date of hire
  • BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care
