Nurse Extern - Inpatient Nursing Womens Health 1

Penn State Health Hampden Medical Center is seeking Nurse Externs for an immersive 4-week Winter Nurse Externship program (December 4, 2026 – January 19, 2027) in Inpatient Nursing Women's Health. This position offers hands-on clinical experience under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, providing basic bedside care and selected nursing procedures to inpatients. You will work with a diverse patient population in an acute care setting featuring 108 private inpatient beds.

This externship is designed to give nursing students real-world experience, expert mentorship, and preparation for nursing practice before graduation. The intensive nature of this opportunity ensures limited spots with individualized attention. The first three days are mandatory for orientation.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic bedside care under RN supervision
• Assist with selected nursing procedures
• Provide care to inpatients in the Women's Health unit
• Participate in orientation and training activities

Required Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program with completion of at least one clinical rotation, OR
• Graduate Nurse without Boards (awaiting licensure exam)

Schedule

• Work Type: PRN (as needed)
• Shift: Varied
• Hours: Varied
• Evening Shift Differential: $2.00/hour
• Night Shift Differential: $2.50/hour

Penn State Health Hampden Medical Center is a 108-bed acute care facility serving Cumberland, Perry, and York counties in Pennsylvania. The facility includes an attached outpatient medical office building and provides acute inpatient medical services to the surrounding communities.
