Yuma Medical Center is seeking a Nurse Extern II to join our nursing team on the night shift. Under the direction of a registered nurse, you will perform clinical skills for which you have received didactic instruction in your nursing program, including medication administration and IV therapy. This is a regular full-time position working 72 hours every two weeks.
Clinical Setting
You will work at Yuma Medical Center, part of Onvida Health, in Yuma, Arizona.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of a registered nurse, you will:
- Advocate for patients and families, representing their concerns and serving as a moral agent in identifying and resolving ethical and clinical concerns
- Provide clear, understandable information to patients and families while maintaining confidentiality
- Develop cultural sensitivity and incorporate differences into patient care, including cultural, spiritual, and socioeconomic considerations
- Demonstrate respectful behavior toward patient, family, and team diversity
- Question and evaluate nursing practice, utilizing research and experiential learning
- Follow nursing standards, organizational policies, and procedures
- Apply the nursing process appropriately and seek feedback on clinical practice
- Demonstrate clinical reasoning and critical thinking in patient care decisions
- Participate in implementing the nursing process under the direction of your RN preceptor
- Seek advice for unfamiliar situations and use evidence-based practice
- Create a compassionate, supportive, and therapeutic environment for patients and staff
- Perform systematic assessments focusing on physical and psychosocial patient needs
- Participate in formulating outcome-based plans of care
- Maintain a safe physical environment and acknowledge patient comfort needs
- Utilize the nursing process to compare patient responses with planned outcomes
- Progress from viewing patients as tasks to viewing them holistically

Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree in nursing
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association)
- Zero years of experience required
Compensation
Hourly pay rate: $22.00 to $35.20 (mid-point $28.60). Actual salaries may vary based on skills and experience. This salary range is one component of the total rewards and compensation package.
