Nurse Extern II

Wellstar is seeking a Nurse Extern II to provide support care under the direction of a registered professional nurse. In this role, you will focus on promoting a positive patient experience by partnering with patients, families, and healthcare providers to deliver excellent customer service and assistance with daily living activities and comfort measures.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, age-appropriate, and culturally aware basic patient care including activities of daily living (ADLs), ambulation, and vital signs
• Perform approved advanced technical procedures including phlebotomy, simple treatments, dressing changes, oral and tracheal suctioning, splinting, and insertion and discontinuation of foley catheters
• Perform 12-lead EKGs
• Transport supplies, equipment, and patient medications
• Support clinical care areas with clerical functions including computer order entry, data retrieval, unit supply maintenance, chart preparation and maintenance, and patient communication
• Participate in hourly patient rounding
• Answer telephone and call lights promptly and notify appropriate staff of patient needs
• Maintain patient rooms and unit areas clean and free of clutter
• Follow appropriate personal protective equipment and infection control policies
• Use proper body mechanics and lift equipment
• Communicate effectively with patients, staff, physicians, families, and visitors using safety communication techniques
• Report patient care concerns, problems, and emergencies to the registered nurse
• Support healthcare team initiatives and unit performance improvement activities
• Complete at least one professional development activity per year
• Comply with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct

Required Qualifications

• Graduated from an accredited nursing program
• Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Nursing
• BLS (Basic Life Support), ARC-BLS (American Red Cross Basic Life Support), or BLS-I (Basic Life Support - Instructor) certification
• Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
• Ability to collaborate with other healthcare providers
• Ability to multitask
• Ability to function in stressful and emergency situations
• Strong attention to detail
• Computer skills and ability to enter information into an electronic medical record
• Knowledge of basic medical terminology
• Personal time management skills
