NURSE EXTERN II PRN- Night shift

Moffitt Cancer Center is seeking a Nurse Extern II for a PRN night shift position. This role is designed for nursing students to gain practical experience in a clinical oncology setting under the direct supervision of a registered nurse mentor.

As a Nurse Extern II, you will provide basic nursing care to oncology patients, assist with activities of daily living, and support the nursing team in delivering safe, patient-centered care. You will work collaboratively with the RN mentor and interdisciplinary healthcare team to meet the physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs of patients.

Responsibilities

• Provide care to oncology patients based on identification of the patient's age, physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs
• Assist in general patient care through collaboration with the RN and healthcare team
• Assist nursing staff in treatment procedures using validated skills and competencies
• Provide patient care including taking vital signs, weight, and intake-output measurements
• Make rounds and handle patient and family assistance tasks following patient safety policies
• Identify and report environmental conditions that may put patients at risk
• Maintain a safe and clean environment under RN supervision
• Adhere to all applicable local, state, and federal regulations and accrediting body requirements

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Currently enrolled in a nationally accredited BSN nursing program
• Completion of first semester nursing fundamentals course
• Concurrent enrollment or completion of Complex Health Nursing 1
• Minimum 3.0 GPA
• Letter of recommendation from nursing school faculty
• CNA certification not required for students who have completed nursing fundamentals course and are actively enrolled in BSN program

Schedule and Employment

• PRN (as needed) position with flexible schedule available due to school obligations
• Night shift
• Minimum of one shift per pay period required

Onboarding

• Successful completion of Moffitt's Oncology Tech orientation, bootcamp, and checklist required within the first 90 days of employment

Compensation

• $22.50 per hour

Note: Transcripts must be submitted to manager twice per calendar year to maintain eligibility.
