Nurse Extern II - Med Surg

The Nurse Extern II position is designed to provide expanded clinical experience for professional (RN) nursing students while assisting the Registered Nursing staff in delivering patient care. This role offers hands-on involvement in patient care planning, implementation, observation, and evaluation on a medical-surgical unit.

Responsibilities

• Check patient blood sugar levels accurately and document all results as ordered, ensuring all values are correctly reported to the attending nurse
• Obtain vital signs appropriately based on patient age and condition, reporting abnormal findings immediately to the attending or charge nurse
• Coordinate care with other health professionals
• Provide appropriate treatment in emergency situations as they arise, including codes and patient falls
• Notify the nurse of any changes in patient condition
• Perform related duties as required

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• American Heart Association BLS CPR certification (must be obtained within 7 days of hire)
