This position offers nursing students an opportunity to gain clinical experience in a cardiac care setting under the supervision of registered nurses. As a Nurse Extern II, you will provide individualized, age-specific bedside nursing care based on the nursing process while working toward your nursing degree.
Responsibilities
- Observe, report, and respond to patients' physical, psychosocial, spiritual, educational, safety, risk management, and discharge planning needs on admission and on an ongoing basis
- Perform direct patient care activities according to the plan of care as directed by the RN
- Recognize early and subtle changes in patient condition and report status to the RN
- Transition care of patients by reporting patient status, individual patient needs, plan of care, current treatments, and unfinished orders
- Document patient vital signs, intake and output, height, weight, and activities of daily living
- Maintain a clean and orderly work environment, including organizing supplies, tracking and stocking equipment, and keeping the department clean and organized
- Perform other related job tasks or responsibilities as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a school of nursing at the senior level
- Successful completion of three semesters of nursing school (entering last semester or block)
- Submission of at least two letters of recommendation from nursing instructors
- Skills checklist documentation from nursing instructor; only those skills accomplished may be performed
- CPR certification
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact positively and effectively with patients, visitors, and physicians
- Excellent customer service skills
- Basic computer skills
Additional Information
Preceding skills must be monitored and evaluated by an RN when performed for the first time.
