Nurse Extern Float Pool PRN

St. David's North Austin Medical Center is seeking a Nurse Extern for a Float Pool PRN position. As a Nurse Extern, you will be a valued member of the nursing team, gaining hands-on experience while exploring the full scope of the Registered Nurse role. You will help deliver safe, compassionate care that improves patients' lives while building the skills and confidence to take on more advanced responsibilities as you progress through your nursing program.

Clinical Setting

St. David's North Austin Medical Center is a 460+ bed, multi-specialty, acute care hospital. The facility provides advanced women's health services including maternity and newborn care with Level I, II, and III neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) at St. David's Women's Center of Texas. Additional services include a 24-hour emergency department, pediatric emergency care, intensive care at St. David's Children's Hospital, the Texas Institute for Robotic Surgery, bariatric surgery, a Heart and Vascular Center, neurology and neurosurgery, a kidney transplant program, a Level IV Epilepsy Center, and inpatient and outpatient surgery and acute rehabilitation services. St. David's Women's Center of Texas is recognized by the State of Texas as a Level IV Maternal Facility. St. David's Surgical Hospital, part of the medical center, is the first Level 4 Epilepsy Center in Central Texas for both adults and children, with its own 24-hour emergency department, medical-surgical inpatient unit, and pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) for patients ages 17 and under.

Responsibilities

• Provide essential care for patients by assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), checking vital signs, supporting mobility, and ensuring comfort and hygiene
• Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, collecting specimens, and other basic procedures as you gain experience and grow in your competency
• Document care accurately and communicate timely updates with the nursing team to keep patient care seamless and coordinated
• Help patients and families understand their care plans and offer guidance for their health and recovery
• Keep patient areas clean and safe by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and maintaining an organized environment
• Engage in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and partner with your supervisor or preceptor to build your personal career development plan

Required Qualifications

• Associate Degree or Bachelor's Degree
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date

• PRN (as needed) position
• No travel required
• No experience required
