Nurse Extern Employment Program - one semester of nursing school clinicals required - December 2026 start

This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on clinical experience as a Nurse Extern at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Working under the supervision of registered nurses and other healthcare professionals, you will assist with patient care, perform basic nursing procedures, and contribute to the overall patient experience while developing essential skills and competencies for your future nursing career.

Clinical Setting

You will work in various clinical areas throughout the medical center, gaining exposure to different patient populations and care environments.

Responsibilities

• Assist nursing staff in the delivery of patient care in an unlicensed assistive role
• Contribute to the well-being, comfort, and safety of patients
• Perform basic nursing procedures under RN supervision
• Support the overall patient experience

Required Qualifications

• Successfully completed one semester of nursing school clinicals
• Currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program

Schedule

• Per diem position
• Day, evening, and night shifts available
• Some weekend and holiday shifts per unit requirements

Compensation

• Hourly rate: $17.51 - $23.64
• Individual rates determined based on market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise, and internal equity considerations
