Nurse Extern Emergency Department

Clinical Setting

Johnston-Willis Hospital is a 290+ bed acute care facility serving Greater Richmond and the Tri-Cities area. The Emergency Department is a fast-paced clinical environment where you'll work alongside experienced nursing staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide essential patient care including assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), vital sign monitoring, mobility support, and comfort and hygiene measures
• Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other basic procedures as you gain experience and competency
• Document care accurately and communicate timely updates with the nursing team to ensure seamless, coordinated patient care
• Help patients and families understand their care plans and provide guidance for health and recovery
• Maintain clean and safe patient areas by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and organizing the environment
• Engage in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and work with your supervisor or preceptor to develop your personal career development plan

Schedule

This is a part-time position requiring 2 twelve-hour shifts per week, including weekend shifts.

Required Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an RN program
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certification must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date

Compensation

Hourly wage estimate: $16.02 - $22.43 per hour. Actual salary may vary based on specific skills, years of experience, and comparison to other employees in the role. Typical candidates are hired below the midpoint of the range.
