Job Description

Join Penn State Health Holy Spirit Medical Center as a Nurse Extern in the Adult Intensive Care Unit. This externship provides hands-on clinical experience in a 281-bed acute care facility serving the greater Harrisburg region. You will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, performing basic bedside care and selected nursing procedures while gaining exposure to a wide patient population and complex critical care environments.

Clinical Setting

Penn State Health Holy Spirit Medical Center is a comprehensive acute care facility featuring a four-story Ortenzio Heart Center and around-the-clock complex critical care services for patients with life-threatening injuries and conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic bedside care under RN supervision
  • Assist with selected nursing procedures
  • Provide individualized patient care in the intensive care setting

Required Qualifications

  • Current enrollment in an accredited nursing program with completion of at least one clinical rotation, OR
  • Graduate Nurse status without passing the NCLEX

Schedule

This is a PRN (as-needed) externship running from Monday, December 14, 2026 through Saturday, January 9, 2027.

Shifts and Hours

  • 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. (day shift)
  • 7:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m. (night shift)

Shift Differentials

  • Evening shift: $2.00 per hour
  • Night shift: $2.50 per hour
