Ben Taub Hospital, a Level 1 Trauma Center and part of Harris Health's public safety-net system, is seeking a Nurse Clinician III for the Operating Room. This full-time position offers the opportunity to provide clinical leadership and independent patient management in a high-acuity surgical environment serving Harris County's diverse population.
As a Nurse Clinician III (Competent Specialist), you will apply advanced clinical knowledge and professional standards to manage patients with common operating room presentations. You will work independently and safely while recognizing when to seek appropriate resources and support. This role involves clinical leadership responsibilities and mentorship within the surgical nursing team.
Clinical Setting
Ben Taub Hospital is a Level 1 Trauma Center and Magnet-designated facility affiliated with Baylor College of Medicine, UTHealth McGovern Medical School, and UT MD Anderson Cancer Center. The operating room serves acute and trauma patients in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
- Active Texas RN license
- Basic Life Support certification from a hospital-based American Heart Association or Red Cross approved program
- Three years of RN experience
- Designated professional nursing certification for the specialty
- One year of clinical leadership experience meeting at least two of the following criteria: preceptor, charge nurse, specialty certification, mentor, Community of Practice chair, or Quality Improvement Champion
- Annual performance review, resume, CV, or portfolio demonstrating leadership in professional practice
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Bilingual skills in any language
Communication and Skills Requirements
- Above-average verbal communication skills with heavy public contact
- Ability to accurately interpret and transmit clinical information in English, both verbally and in written form
- Ability to send and receive messages that patients, families, and support persons can comprehend
- Proficiency with medical terminology, mathematics, and personal computers
Schedule
- Full-time position
- Weekends, holidays, and flexible scheduling required
- On-call duties as assigned
- Supervisory responsibilities included
Compensation
- $47.37 - $57.80 per hour
