Inova Alexandria Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse Unit Supervisor for the Medical/Surgical unit. This is a full-time, night shift leadership position for a nurse ready to advance their career. The role offers sign-on and relocation bonuses.
Clinical Setting
You will lead the Medical/Surgical unit at Inova Alexandria Hospital, a nationally recognized healthcare leader consistently ranked for safety, quality, and patient experience.
Responsibilities
- Conduct high-quality shift huddles communicating strategic priorities, barriers, tests of change, rounding results, and unit celebrations
- Conduct effective safety huddles and environmental safety rounding; ensure Patient, Medical Director, and RN rounding is completed
- Round on staff continually to remove or escalate barriers to quality care and enhance staff engagement
- Review core measures, key performance indicators, and relevant metrics; participate in analysis of unit-based service outcomes and development of action plans for systematic improvement
- Participate in emergency and safety preparedness drills and trainings as required
- Participate in simulation labs and Operating Room safety stand-downs
- Ensure adherence to The Joint Commission standards relevant to areas of responsibility and ensure team member knowledge of related standards
- Contribute to professional decision-making to support and implement unit-based quality improvement work and strategic outcomes
- Serve as a role model in communication with patients, identifying concerns, diffusing difficult situations, and facilitating resolution
- Serve as Physician Liaison and primary information resource for unit(s) of responsibility
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure discharge needs are in place for smooth patient flow transition
- Assess current staffing and supply needs; proactively resolve staffing discrepancies
- Contribute to annual evaluations as delegated, participate in disciplinary processes when applicable, and participate in interview and hiring processes for new team members
- Provide individual coaching and counseling to clinical staff on critical processes, standards, and problem-solving; communicate expectations effectively and advocate for clinical staff
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Active Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) license in the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Minimum one year of experience as a Registered Nurse
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, or Associate's Degree RN with commitment to complete BSN within one year
Preferred Qualifications
- One to two years of Unit Supervisor or Charge Nurse experience in a Medical/Surgical setting
