Job Description

Join the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center as a Night Shift Patient Care Technician supporting a Surgical Joint team. In this full-time role, you will provide hands-on care to patients recovering from orthopedic, joint replacement, and other surgical procedures under the direction of professional nursing staff. This position is ideal for a Certified Nursing Assistant who thrives in a fast-paced acute care environment and is committed to delivering safe, compassionate, high-quality patient care.

Clinical Setting

You will work on a collaborative Surgical Joint nursing team in an acute care hospital environment, supporting patients throughout their surgical recovery.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care under the direction of professional nursing staff
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, including feeding, bathing, dressing, toileting, mobility, and transfers
  • Obtain, document, and report vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respirations, oxygen saturation, and pain level
  • Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges
  • Perform venipuncture for blood draws and establish IV access
  • Perform blood glucose monitoring and accurately document findings
  • Collect patient specimens for laboratory testing using proper patient identification and collection techniques
  • Provide skin and wound care and report changes in skin integrity or patient condition
  • Assist with orthopedic and rehabilitation devices, including braces, splints, compression wraps, and stockings
  • Participate in hourly rounding and respond promptly to patient call lights, bed alarms, chair alarms, and other patient safety alerts
  • Collaborate with nurses and members of the interdisciplinary care team to carry out the patient's plan of care
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized patient environment while supporting patient comfort and fall prevention
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Schedule

Full-time night shift: 3 x 12-hour shifts per week, 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., with every other weekend and rotating holidays required.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current Maryland Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities, perform multiple duties simultaneously, and function effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary patient care team

  • Previous direct patient care experience in a healthcare facility
