New Graduate Registered Nurse (RN): Transition to Practice Program

Silver Cross Hospital is hiring New Graduate Registered Nurses for our Transition to Practice Program, a comprehensive 11-month bridge program designed to support nurses transitioning from education into clinical practice. This program combines advanced competencies, evidence-based case review, peer debriefing, simulation training, and skill refinement to equip you with the education and hands-on experience needed for a successful start in nursing.

You will complete 8-12 weeks of new graduate orientation with an appointed preceptor and participate in six structured sessions throughout the program. This role is ideal for nurses seeking foundational clinical experience in a supportive, structured environment.

Clinical Setting

Available units include Medical Surgical, Telemetry, Neurology, Oncology, and Inpatient Surgical Post-Op. These departments are foundational floors designed to help you build and perfect your skills as a new graduate nurse.

Schedule and Shifts

Most newly graduated RNs are typically hired into Full-Time Night shift positions (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM). Hiring decisions are based on a match between candidate skills and the availability of shifts aligned with current nursing needs. While night shift is standard, Silver Cross may consider other available shift options when appropriate.

Required Qualifications

• Be completing your final semester of an accredited AND/BSN/MSN program within six months, or have graduated within the last six months of the program start date
• Hold a valid Illinois RN license verified by the IDFPR website, or have official NCLEX exam results indicating eligibility to practice under pending license by the program start date
• Possess a BLS CPR card through American Heart Association

Compensation

• New Graduate RN: $35.00 per hour
• Graduated Nurse Assistant (GNA) position (prior to completing license requirements): $27.00 per hour
• Expected pay range: $35.00 - $42.50 per hour

The final pay rate offered may be more than the posted range based on factors including licensure, certifications, work experience, education, knowledge, demonstrated abilities, internal equity, and market data.
