The opportunity

Job Description

Join Aurora Medical Center Grafton's progressive care unit as a Registered Nurse supporting newly licensed and experienced RNs in a collaborative clinical environment. This 16-bed unit specializes in cardiothoracic surgery patients, including post-operative lobe resections and esophagectomies, as well as cardiac overflow patients, stroke patients, and other high-acuity cases requiring advanced monitoring and specialized cardiac and insulin drips.

Clinical Setting

Aurora Medical Center Grafton is a 132-bed facility recognized as a leading destination for healthcare. The progressive care unit offers an excellent learning environment with access to state-of-the-art equipment, private patient rooms, and comprehensive specialized services. The facility is supported by a team of more than 450 nurses and is preparing for significant expansion with a new patient tower scheduled to open in 2027.

Responsibilities

  • Provide and coordinate comprehensive patient care through the nursing process to deliver safe, therapeutic care in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures
  • Apply evidence-based practice and clinical decision-making to create the safest patient environment and best patient experience
  • Use skilled communication and compassionate care to lead efforts across the continuum of care
  • Respond quickly to changing patient conditions and perform patient safety interventions, including verbal de-escalation and restraints when necessary

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in nursing
  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which you practice
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required within 6 months of hire

Schedule

  • Full-time position (0.9 FTE)
  • 36 hours per week
  • 7:00 pm to 7:30 am schedule
  • Three 12-hour shifts per week
  • Every 4th weekend (Friday/Saturday)
  • Rotating holidays
  • New graduates must remain at 0.9 FTE for one year off orientation

Compensation and Benefits

  • Pay range: $38.20 to $57.30 per hour
  • Base compensation determined by qualifications, skills, relevant experience, and training

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, squatting, reaching, twisting, and lifting throughout the workday
  • Safe lifting of up to 35 pounds and patient handling tasks including pushing/pulling up to 30 pounds
  • Assisting with 150-pound sliding transfers
  • Functional speech, vision, hearing, touch, and fine motor skills for clinical procedures
  • Ability to operate equipment foot controls
  • Exposure to blood, body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, and hazardous waste; appropriate protective equipment must be used
  • Physical Abilities Testing and additional department-specific requirements may apply
