New Graduate Registered Nurse (RN) – Progressive Care Unit

Join Atrium Health's Carolinas Medical Center as a New Graduate Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit (10DE), a 19-bed, high-acuity unit serving patients with complex medical, surgical, cardiac, neurological, and trauma needs. This role is ideal for newly licensed RNs seeking to develop critical care skills in a supportive environment.

Clinical Setting

The Progressive Care Unit admits patients from specialty ICUs, the Emergency Department, and other nursing units when patients require a higher level of care but do not require ICU-level services. Most patients are mechanically ventilated via tracheostomy or require non-invasive positive pressure ventilatory support (BiPAP/CPAP). Many are recovering from severe critical illnesses and require frequent monitoring, complex nursing interventions, care coordination, and intensive rehabilitation services from physical, occupational, and speech therapy. All patients receive continuous cardiac and pulse oximetry monitoring. The typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3.

The unit maintains a strong culture of teamwork, quality improvement, and professional involvement within the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN).

Responsibilities

• Provide and coordinate comprehensive patient care through the nursing process to deliver safe, therapeutic care in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures
• Apply evidence-based practice and clinical decision-making to create the safest patient environment
• Communicate effectively and lead efforts to optimize the patient experience across the continuum of care

Required Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited or approved nursing program
• Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which you practice
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association
