Denver Health is recruiting a New Graduate Registered Nurse (RN) for the Pediatric Emergency Department and Urgent Care. This is a full-time, night shift position (0.9 FTE) designed specifically for nurses with no previous RN experience.

You will work in a fast-paced environment providing high-quality care to pediatric patients of all acuity levels, from minor illnesses like earaches to major traumas. Denver Health's Pediatric Emergency Department is the only Level II Pediatric Trauma Center in the Denver Metro Area, staffed with experienced pediatric providers and nurses. You will be part of an essential link in the pediatric chain of care, working closely with inpatient pediatric and ICU teams and community pediatric care centers.

New Nurse Support

Denver Health understands the support needed for new nurses to succeed. You will participate in a 12-month Nurse Residency Program that includes monthly education classes and hands-on clinical experiences designed to ease your transition from student to practicing professional nurse. The program builds on knowledge and skills acquired in your nursing education.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and execute all job functions as performed by a fully credentialed RN
  • Monitor, record, and report symptoms and changes in patient condition and vital signs
  • Develop and modify patient care plans based on patient responses and conditions
  • Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care
  • Monitor all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity
  • Prepare patients for and assist with examinations and treatments
  • Assess the needs of individuals, families, and communities to identify potential health or safety problems
  • Instruct individuals and families on health education, disease prevention, and aftercare
  • Administer nursing care to ill, injured, convalescent, or disabled patients
  • Administer medications, document care, and reassess patient responses

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing
  • Active RN license from Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA)
  • BLS/CPR certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Knowledge of clinical nursing practices, safety principles, and infection control
  • Knowledge of Denver Health standards, policies, and procedures
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form
  • Ability to apply nursing principles, practices, and techniques
  • Ability to assess patients' needs and coordinate proper nursing care
  • Ability to respond appropriately to emergency situations
  • Proficiency with computers and computer systems
  • Microsoft Office Suite proficiency
  • This program is open to those with no previous RN experience

Certifications Required Within Six Months of Hire
