Job Description

Join Atrium Health's Carolinas Medical Center as a New Graduate Registered Nurse on the Mother Baby unit (8T). This full-time position offers an excellent opportunity to launch your nursing career in a supportive environment at a Magnet-designated, Level 1 Trauma center and academic medical center.

You will provide comprehensive patient care to postpartum mothers and their newborns following vaginal or cesarean delivery, with or without complications. The 36-bed unit serves obstetrical patients from adolescence through older adulthood with diverse multicultural backgrounds. Newborn patients are typically stable and may require procedures such as blood tests for infection and stability assessment, blood sugar monitoring, phototherapy, and bilirubin level monitoring. All newborns receive hearing tests and newborn screens prior to discharge. Patient ratios are 2-4 couplets or 4-7 babies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide and coordinate comprehensive patient care through the nursing process
  • Deliver safe, therapeutic care in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures
  • Apply evidence-based practice and clinical decision-making
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team
  • Create a safe patient environment and optimize patient experience

Clinical Setting

The Mother Baby unit is a 36-bed inpatient facility providing 24-hour obstetrical care. The unit includes patient rooms for couplets (mother and baby together), additional crib areas for twin deliveries, newborns requiring additional medical care after mother discharge, and newborns placed on the unit based on bed availability within the Women's Division.
