Denver Health is recruiting a New Graduate Registered Nurse (RN) for the Mom/Baby Unit within Women and Children's Health. This 28-bed unit cares for postpartum patients and their newborns, typically managing approximately 300 deliveries per month. As a new graduate, you will receive comprehensive support through a 12-month Nurse Residency Program that includes monthly education classes and hands-on clinical experiences designed to ease your transition from student to practicing professional nurse.
Clinical Setting
The Mom/Baby Unit is a 28-bed postpartum and newborn care unit. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6-8 patients, with a CNA assigned to the nursery. The unit cares for postpartum patients after delivery and their newborns, including babies whose medical status does not require NICU-level care but who are not yet ready for discharge. Mom/Baby nurses also serve as admit RNs for all infants transferred to the unit. You may periodically care for gynecology patients as well.
Responsibilities
- Assess the needs of individuals, families, and communities to identify potential health or safety problems
- Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records
- Monitor, record, and report symptoms and changes in patient condition and vital signs
- Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patient responses and conditions
- Develop and modify patient care plans as indicated by patient responses and conditions
- Prepare patients for and assist with examinations and treatments
- Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care
- Monitor all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity
- Direct and supervise less skilled nursing and healthcare personnel
- Instruct individuals and families on health education, disease prevention, and aftercare
- Administer nursing care to ill, injured, convalescent, or disabled patients
- Administer medications, document administration, and reassess patient response
- Promote positive patient experience
Required Qualifications
- Associate's Degree in Nursing
- Active RN license from Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA)
- BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Less than 1 year of patient care experience (new graduate position)
- Completion and achievement of clinical competency standards
- Knowledge of principles of growth and development across the lifespan
- Ability to assess patient data and interpret appropriate cultural information
- Ability to use medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
- Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures
- Ability to communicate clearly
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Adherence to American Nurses Association (ANA) Standards of Professional Nursing Practice and the ANA Code of Ethics
Preferred Qualifications
- EPIC documentation experience

Compensation
- Salary: $36.00 - $57.77 per hour
