The opportunity

Job Description

Join the Dickson Heart Intensive Care Unit (DHICU) at Carolinas Medical Center as a New Graduate Registered Nurse. This 20-bed, high-acuity cardiac ICU specializes in the management of critically ill patients requiring advanced cardiovascular care and invasive hemodynamic monitoring. You will care for patients with complex conditions including ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), acute decompensated heart failure, end-stage heart failure, and cardiogenic shock. Many patients require advanced therapies such as left ventricular assist devices (LVAD) or heart transplantation.

As an RN in DHICU, you will develop expertise in managing critically ill cardiac patients and will be trained in the care of advanced mechanical circulatory support devices, including intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP), extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), Impella, and durable LVAD/RVAD systems. The unit fosters a collaborative, high-performance environment focused on delivering evidence-based care, ensuring patient safety, and supporting optimal clinical outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide and coordinate comprehensive patient care through the nursing process to deliver safe, therapeutic care in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures
  • Apply evidence-based practice and clinical decision-making to create the safest patient environment and best patient experience
  • Lead efforts to optimize patient outcomes across the continuum of care
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to support complex cardiovascular patient management

Clinical Setting

Carolinas Medical Center (CMC) is the flagship hospital of Atrium Health in Charlotte, North Carolina. CMC is distinguished throughout the Southeastern United States for excellent patient care and medical expertise. The hospital serves as the region's only Level 1 Trauma center, is Magnet-designated, and an approved transplant center for heart, kidney, pancreas, and liver. CMC serves as one of North Carolina's five Academic Medical Center Teaching Hospitals, providing residency training for more than 200 physicians in 15 specialties and serves as a regional campus for Wake Forest University School of Medicine.

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in nursing
  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which you practice
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Current authorization to work in the United States on a full-time basis (Atrium Health is currently unable to provide employment visa sponsorship for this role)

Schedule

  • Full-time position, 36 hours per week
  • 3, 12-hour night shifts per week
  • Holiday and weekend rotation required

Compensation and Bonuses

  • Pay range: $38.20 - $57.30 per hour
  • Base compensation within the listed pay range based on qualifications, skills, relevant experience, and training
  • Premium pay for shift differentials and other applicable factors
  • Sign-on bonus available to applicants who have not received a sign-on bonus from the company for another role within the past 24 months
  • Opportunity for annual increases based on performance
