Join Atrium Health's Carolinas Medical Center as a New Graduate Registered Nurse on 7B, an advanced heart failure intermediate cardiac unit. This 19-bed specialized unit provides progressive care for critically ill cardiac patients, with 14 high-acuity beds and a 3:1 nurse-to-patient ratio in high-acuity settings. You will deliver comprehensive patient care using evidence-based practice and clinical decision-making while supporting patients through complex cardiac conditions and long-term device management.

Clinical Setting

7B is a specialized cardiac intermediate unit within Carolinas Medical Center, the flagship hospital of Atrium Health in Charlotte, NC. The facility is a Level 1 Trauma center, Magnet-designated, and an approved transplant center for heart, kidney, pancreas, and liver. It serves as one of North Carolina's five Academic Medical Center Teaching Hospitals.

Patient Population and Specialties

You will provide specialized care for complex cardiac patients requiring:

  • Invasive hemodynamic monitoring (PA/Swan-Ganz catheters)
  • Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVADs)
  • Pre- and post-heart transplant management
  • Bedside sustained low-efficiency dialysis (SLED)
  • Inotropic therapy management

The role emphasizes building meaningful, ongoing relationships with patients through both acute care and long-term management of advanced cardiac devices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide and coordinate comprehensive patient care through the nursing process
  • Deliver safe, therapeutic care in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures
  • Apply evidence-based practice and clinical decision-making in patient care
  • Lead efforts to create the safest patient environment and best patient experience
  • Communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary team

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited or approved nursing program
  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which you practice
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association

Schedule

  • Full-time position, 36 hours per week
  • Three 12-hour night shifts per week
  • Holiday and weekend rotation required

Compensation and Benefits

  • Pay range: $38.20 - $57.30 per hour
