Denver Health is recruiting a New Graduate Registered Nurse (RN) for the 9A Medicine/Oncology unit. This position is designed specifically for nurses transitioning from education to professional practice, with comprehensive support through a 12-month Nurse Residency Program accredited with distinction by the American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC).
Clinical Setting
The 9A unit consists of two distinct areas: Med/Surgical Telemetry Medicine/Surgical Oncology (9 East) and Telemetry Medicine (9 West). Nurses on 9 East obtain an Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy Provider credential and administer chemotherapy to inpatients. The unit is innovative and encourages staff to work at the highest level of licensure and certification. 9 West has specialized in high-acuity medical protocols since June 2020 and is recognized as a pipeline to critical care, the Emergency Department, and other hospital departments. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5, with a CNA-to-patient ratio of 1:12 most days.
Responsibilities
- Assess the needs of individuals, families, and communities to identify potential health or safety problems
- Monitor, record, and report symptoms and changes in patient condition and vital signs
- Develop and modify patient care plans as indicated by patient responses and conditions
- Prepare patients for and assist with examinations and treatments
- Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care
- Monitor all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity
- Direct and supervise less skilled nursing and healthcare personnel
- Instruct individuals and families on health education, disease prevention, and aftercare
- Administer nursing care to ill, injured, convalescent, or disabled patients
- Administer medications, document, and reassess patient response
- Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records
- Promote positive patient experience
Your practice will be guided by American Nurses Association (ANA) standards of professional nursing and performance, the ANA Code of Ethics, critical thinking, evidence-based practices, and the Theory of Human Caring and Caritas.
Nurse Residency Program
Denver Health provides comprehensive support for new nurses through a 12-month Nurse Residency Program. The program includes monthly education classes and hands-on clinical experiences designed to ease the transition from student to practicing professional nurse, building on knowledge and skills acquired in nursing education programs.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's Degree in Nursing
- BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Active RN license from the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA)
- Completion of clinical competency standards
- Knowledge and applicability of principles of growth and development over the life span
- Ability to assess patient data and interpret appropriate cultural information
- Ability to use medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
- Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures
- Ability to communicate clearly
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Adherence to ANA Standards of Professional Nursing Practice and accrediting body standards

Compensation and Benefits
Salary: $36.00 - $57.77 per hour
