New Graduate Registered Nurse (RN) | 6-Heart Tower- Cardiac Observation

Join our 30-bed cardiac observation unit as a New Graduate Registered Nurse. This role offers a fast-paced, rewarding environment specializing in the care of pre- and post-operative cardiac patients. You will care for patients undergoing procedures such as heart catheterization, pacemaker insertion, TAVR, cardioversion, and ablations. While our unit does not perform these procedures, we provide comprehensive pre- and post-operative care. In addition to cardiac patients, you will also care for a diverse mix of medical-surgical and orthopedic patients, providing an enriching environment to broaden your clinical skill set.

Clinical Setting

Our unit emphasizes collaborative, patient-centered care with a strong focus on pain management, mobility, and post-surgical recovery. You will work closely with surgeons, therapists, and multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, diagnose, implement, and evaluate nursing care while engaging patients and families throughout the continuum of care
• Monitor patient conditions, adjust care plans, mobilize resources, and collaborate with the care team to influence care outcomes
• Administer medications, treatments, and therapies safely according to clinical protocols and procedures
• Uphold and promote a culture of safety
• Continuously evaluate patient, team, and unit outcomes and take action as needed
• Demonstrate effective communication, feedback, and conflict resolution to foster team collaboration
• Engage in unit councils, professional governance, and quality initiatives to improve care processes and apply evidence-based practices
• Maintain accurate, timely electronic health record (EHR) documentation
• Delegate appropriately to other Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and unlicensed assistive personnel
• Pursue professional development, complete required education, and maintain certifications
• Adhere to the ANA Code of Ethics and practice ethical decision-making while respecting interdisciplinary roles
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care and assess patient status relative to age-specific needs
• May be required to float to other units, departments, care areas, or facilities within the designated service area to meet patient care needs

Required Qualifications

• Graduate of a Board of Nursing approved nursing education program
• Active Registered Nurse (RN) multi-state compact and/or single-state license with privileges to practice in the state(s) where providing client nursing services
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Strong clinical judgment and critical thinking
• Time management, prioritization, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
• Proficiency in computer functions including email, electronic records, and digital platforms
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently throughout the workday
• Ability to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies
• Ability to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present
• Functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine hand manipulation skills for IV insertion and other procedures
• Ability to maneuver foot pedals on carts or machines
• Ability to perform physical safety interventions such as patient restraint and verbal de-escalation if needed
• Ability to respond quickly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer-sponsored work authorization

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN)

Additional Requirements

• May be exposed to chemical and hazardous waste as well as blood and body fluids and communicable disease; protective clothing and equipment must be worn as necessary
• Physical Abilities Testing may be required
• Additional department-specific physical requirements may be identified for unique responsibilities within the department by the nurse leader
• Licensed nurses practicing via telehealth, telenursing, or virtual modalities must be licensed or hold the privilege to practice in the state(s) where the client(s) is/are located
