Join Rochester Regional Health as a New Graduate Registered Nurse in the Perioperative Explore Program at Unity Hospital. This education-oriented program is designed to launch your nursing career in a supportive environment where you will learn alongside dedicated professionals while developing expertise in perioperative nursing.

You will complete immersive learning experiences across multiple perioperative units, caring for patients undergoing surgical procedures in specialties including General Surgery, Robotics, Gynecology, Breast Surgery, Orthopedic, Urology, and Vascular surgery.

Clinical Setting

The program rotates through four clinical areas:

  • Pre-Operative Unit (Pre-Op): The entry point for surgical patients, providing pre-arrival education and surgical readiness assessment.
  • Operating Room (OR): A 14-operating-room surgical suite performing elective and emergency procedures daily.
  • Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU): A 14-bed critical care unit providing recovery care for post-surgical patients.
  • Gastroenterology (GI): Additional clinical experience in gastroenterology procedures.

Program Structure

  • Complete hands-on training rotations in pre-operative, operative, and recovery units with an experienced nurse preceptor.
  • Participate in weekly educational discussions, simulations, and learning meetings.
  • Upon successful completion, you will be hired full-time into an available position in Preadmission, Operating Room, Post Surgery, or Gastroenterology.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care by completing the nursing process and collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members.
  • Perform various treatment procedures and provide physical, educational, and emotional support to patients, families, and friends.
  • Develop and document individualized care plans customized to each patient's unique needs with interdisciplinary team support.
  • Maintain effective communication to convey patient health status, treatment plans, and progress.
  • Demonstrate proficient use of the electronic health record (EHR) for accurate documentation and communication.
  • Supervise assigned team members as appropriate.
  • Adhere to all department and system protocols, regulations, and required education.

Schedule

  • 36 to 40 hours per week
  • Primarily day and evening shifts, Monday through Friday
  • Nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call responsibilities as required by unit needs
  • All candidates must live within a 30-minute drive to Unity Hospital to fulfill on-call duties

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma or Associate's Degree in Nursing
  • Registered Nurse license in New York State
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing

Physical Requirements

This position requires medium work, exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly. Frequent walking, standing, and squatting are required. Reasonable accommodations will be considered for employees with documented physical limitations.
