New Graduate Registered Nurse Oncology

This New Graduate Registered Nurse position is designed for recent RN graduates or those with less than one year of RN experience. You will work on an Oncology unit at St. Mary's Medical Center in Grand Junction, Colorado, providing specialized care to cancer patients while also caring for a diverse patient population with medical diagnoses including respiratory, gastroenterological, cardiac, kidney, and liver diseases.

New Grad RNs will work under the supervision of a licensed RN until licensure can be verified. As part of this role, you will participate in Intermountain's one-year nurse residency program, which supports your transition from classroom to clinical practice through webinars, simulations, case studies, and in-person meetings. The program is designed to help you develop clinical competency and confidence in patient care.

The unit specializes in oncology care and provides additional training to nurses interested in administering intravenous chemotherapy. You will gain exposure to a diverse patient population and clinical conditions, supporting continuous learning and professional development.

Clinical Setting

St. Mary's Medical Center is the largest medical center between Denver and Salt Lake City, serving the healthcare needs of western Colorado and eastern Utah for nearly 120 years. The facility is located in Grand Junction, surrounded by natural landscapes and offering a growing economy with outdoor recreational opportunities including hiking, biking, skiing, and rafting.

Schedule and Compensation

• Full-time position, 36 scheduled weekly hours
• Night shifts
• Shift differentials available for evenings, nights, and weekends
• Entry pay: $26.50 per hour
• Benefits eligible

Required Qualifications

• Successful completion of a recognized and accredited Nursing/RN education program (education will be verified)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for healthcare providers
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

Education Requirement

RNs with less than 12 months of working experience as an RN prior to joining Intermountain must obtain their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within five years of their start date.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to see and read information, labels, and assess patient needs; operate monitors; identify equipment and supplies
• Frequent verbal communication with patient care providers, patients, and visitors; ability to hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations
• Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy, including frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing information, and medication preparation
• Ability to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients; bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment of varying weights, up to and including heavy items
• Ability to walk and assist with transporting and ambulating patients; obtain and distribute supplies and equipment; push and pull gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items; navigate crowded and busy rooms
• May be required to stand in a stationary position for extended periods of time
