Job Description

Join Denver Health's ACUTE Center for Eating Disorders as a New Graduate Registered Nurse. The ACUTE Center is the world's only Center of Excellence for treating patients with extreme medical complications resulting from eating disorders and severe malnutrition. This 30-bed unit provides comprehensive, collaborative care to a unique patient population requiring both medical and behavioral interventions. As a nurse on this team, you will play a vital role in the multidisciplinary approach to patient care, working with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5, supported by CNAs and behavioral healthcare technicians who provide 1:1 care and supervision for every patient.

Clinical Setting

Pav M - Acute Eating Disorder unit at Denver Health, a Level I Trauma Center and 555-bed acute care medical center located near downtown Denver.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and execute all job functions as performed by a fully credentialed RN
  • Monitor, record, and report symptoms and changes in patient condition and vital signs
  • Develop and modify patient care plans based on patient responses and conditions
  • Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patient responses and conditions
  • Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care
  • Monitor all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity
  • Prepare patients for and assist with examinations and treatments
  • Assess the needs of individuals, families, and communities to identify potential health or safety problems
  • Instruct individuals and families on health education, disease prevention, and aftercare
  • Administer nursing care to ill, injured, convalescent, or disabled patients
  • Administer medications, document, and reassess patient responses

New Graduate Support

This position is designed for new graduates with no previous RN experience. Denver Health offers a 12-month Nurse Residency Program that provides monthly education classes and hands-on clinical experiences to ease your transition from student to practicing professional nurse. The program builds on knowledge and skills acquired in nursing education programs.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing
  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Active RN license from the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA)
  • Knowledge of clinical nursing practices, techniques, methods, and competencies
  • Knowledge of safety principles and infection control in patient care environments
  • Knowledge of Denver Health standards, policies, and procedures as they pertain to nursing
  • Ability to properly use medical instruments and laboratory equipment
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form
  • Ability to apply nursing principles, practices, and techniques
  • Ability to assess patients' needs and coordinate proper nursing care
  • Ability to respond appropriately to emergency situations
  • Proficiency with computers and computer systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Schedule

  • Rotating shifts (Days and Nights)
  • Regular employment at 0.9 FTE

Compensation and Benefits

Salary: $36.00 - $57.77 per hour
