Neonatal Nurse Practitioner

UChicago Medicine AdventHealth is seeking a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner to provide direct patient care in our neonatal intensive care units and delivery rooms at our Bolingbrook and Hinsdale medical centers. As an Advanced Practice Provider, you will work collaboratively with physicians and multidisciplinary health teams to identify, manage, and refer health problems for neonatal patients.

Clinical Setting

You will work across UChicago Medicine AdventHealth Medical Centers in Bolingbrook and Hinsdale, which are affiliated with UChicago Medicine, one of the top academic medical centers in the country, and part of AdventHealth, a unified health system with over 50 hospital campuses throughout 9 states.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care and formulate plans of care in collaboration with physicians, nursing staff, and the multidisciplinary health team in accordance with approved privileges
• Communicate follow-up plans and disposition with follow-up healthcare providers
• Prescribe and evaluate pharmacological therapies according to protocol
• Attend both high and low risk deliveries as needed
• Initiate CPR and perform therapeutic techniques to stabilize compromised infants in the delivery room, NICU, emergency room, and referring hospitals as needed
• Stabilize and transport patients as needed
• Demonstrate in-depth understanding of current professional and legal trends, concepts, and issues related to practice
• Identify educational needs of family members and assist with teaching as appropriate
• Ensure appropriate systems and resources are in place to maintain established standards of care
• Participate in self and peer evaluation to improve quality of care
• Participate in the development, review, and evaluation of policies and procedures
• Participate in developing and implementing quality improvement monitoring
• Participate in providing in-service and outreach education programs
• Act as a resource for clinical skills for staff on or off the unit
• May participate in clinical research projects conducted by supervising physicians
• Serve as preceptor to APP students
• Evaluate goals and outcomes considering benefit-versus-burden, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness for the patient, family, and organization
• Develop diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions needed to achieve patient care goals
• Demonstrate deep understanding of and response to adverse drug reactions, with special attention to vulnerable populations such as infants, children, pregnant and lactating women, and older adults
• Develop and coordinate APP training and professional development activities
• Perform other related work as needed

Required Qualifications

• College or university degree from an accredited school or college
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in a related job discipline
• Current and/or eligible for State of Illinois licensure/registration
• Eligibility to be privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced nursing degree from an accredited school or college of nursing
• Completion of approved NNP training
• NCC certification as a neonatal nurse practitioner
• Ability to obtain Illinois advanced practice nurse license by start date
• Current license as registered nurse
• Ability to apply for mid-level practitioner-controlled substance license and DEA number once licensed
• Proficiency in resuscitation, intubation, and line placement
• Proficiency in EPIC
• Proficiency in use of computers
• Excellent clinical, management, and organizational skills
• Ability to conduct physical examinations and health assessments
• Detail-oriented
• Ability to work effectively under pressure
• Ability to use independent judgment
• Strong communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to facilitate communication among various levels of practitioners
• Ability to interview and obtain medical information
• Willingness to enter into written collaborative agreement with collaboration physician upon hire
• Ability to properly document and bill for services provided

Compensation

• Annual Salary: $146,000 - $180,000
